With over 18 years of teaching experience, I deploy BYOD and #flipclass methods to inspire my students to think critically and become passionate about the topics studied in class blending modern and classical elements. For as Plutarch wrote in Moralia, On Listening to Lectures 48C (LCL 1.256-25), "For the mind does not require filling like a bottle, but rather, like wood, it only requires kindling to create in it an impulse to think independently and an ardent desire for the truth." While my students will attest that I fill up their binders and notifications with work and resources, they will state that I do get fired up when teaching literature. From connecting with classes for peer editing projects to gamified learning to using various apps such as Actively Learn, NoRedInk, and Pixton, Edmodo is the hub of my virtual classroom and keeps my students and I connected and constantly learning.
