Global Collaboration
I'm working with a pre-service teacher from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada. Sarah Buchko is interacting with my students via Edmodo by replying to posts, creating assignments and assessing student learning in an online learning environment. She and I are communicating via email, Google+, Twitter, and collaborative Google docs. By the conclusion of her ECMP 355 class, and our mentorship, we will have engaged in a recorded Google Hangout discussing how I implement edtech in my classroom, and she will have written a guest post for my blog. You can follow Sarah on Google+ and Twitter.
Using a flipped approach, Miss Buchko made two videos for my students. The first video featured in the playlist to the right is Miss Buchko's video biography that includes information about the University of Regina, her hometown Saskatoon, and the schools she has attended as a student. After viewing this video, students took a quick quiz in Edmodo assessing their comprehension of the information which Miss Buchko scored. Miss Buchko varied the question-type and learned how to score student responses online. The second video in the playlist to the right is a travelogue of Miss Buchko's trip to Helena, Montana. As a connection to my classes' study of The Odyssey and Odysseus' wanderings at sea, students will view Miss Buchko's video and my photo collage of a trip to the CUE 2014 conference in Palm Springs, California (below), as inspiration for creating their own travel story using various educational technology tools (assignment to the right).
